...And these are a few of my favourite things ...
I have ridden a bike with a basket (for my baguettes), had the bike stolen, lived, rented, worked, quit, studied, stopped studying, driven a car, gotten speeding fines, taken a spontaneous road trip south and made friends in a country on the other side of the world.
Theres a lot to say about an experience like that, but here are just a few of my favourite things …
My window facing the east: sunrise, yoga.
Finding creative ways of asking where is the “peanut butter” when I didn’t know the vocabulary in the supermarket.
Being cold while wearing pants, jumper, beanie, scarf, gloves along the beach when I jogged.
Picking up hot baguettes on my way home from study and eating the whole thing before I get home.
Walking through the chantier nautique du vieux port in La Rochelle and watching the slow and careful renovation process. Choosing which boat is my favourite.
The internal excitement as I perouse the bakery shelves for a devilish treat as I have my ritual conversations with the baker.
Learning how to play European Handball and being wrongfully placed as intermediate.
Singing in French at choir.
La France et Ses regions teacher, William. Great when you can both laugh and learn.
Learning so much body vocabulary in French from my gym class instructor.
Knowing that every time I walk outside in LR (even though its a town on the opposite side of the world to Australia) I knew I would see at least one person I know.
On the day I finished my exams, hiring a car and the following day driving south to visit: Toulouse, Montpellier, Nimes, Pont du Gard, Avignon.
My friends.
Oh, and the big knot of hair that develops between my beanie and the back of my big winter jacket!
